The newly designed Vierthalerpark in Meidling opens its gates!

The new Vierthalerpark in Vienna-Meidling was officially opened on Tuesday. The redesign of the park, which was carried out as part of a citizen participation process, aims to create a modern and interactive place for residents. Vierthalerpark covers an area of 2,000 square meters and is now divided into four different zones that offer something for all age groups.

In recent months, the park has become a popular meeting place for families, small children and young people from the area. On the Vierthalergasse side, visitors will find a football cage, a basketball hoop and a calisthenics area. At the entrance to Rauchgasse, a new play area with a climbing frame, slide, basket swing and water feature attracts children. The Bendlgasse side has been converted into a relaxation area with hammocks and a lawn where residents can retreat.

Green oases in the city

The redesign not only ensures more fun and exercise, but also a significant improvement in the greenery. A total of five new trees were planted and 230 square meters of land were unsealed and turned into green space. Plants now grow on the wall of a house, and new shrub and perennial beds have also been created. “The importance of green oases for quality of life cannot be overestimated,” emphasizes Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky (SPÖ) in an interview.

District leader Wilfried Zankl (SPÖ) is also very satisfied with the result of the citizen participation process, in which residents were able to contribute their ideas and wishes. Many concerns were implemented, including more green spaces, an extensive play area for children and modern, inclusion-friendly seating options. Table tennis tables and two new round benches in the central area also invite you to linger.

A look into the future

After the opening of Vierthaler Park, attention is already turning to the next green space that is to be redesigned: Christine-Busta-Park. Around 300 people have already submitted ideas and suggestions here. The first drafts are to be presented in autumn. It turns out that citizen participation is playing an increasingly important role when it comes to the design of public spaces. The experiences from Vierthaler Park provide many clues as to how numerous voices can be incorporated into planning.

Special measures were also taken for Vierthalerpark to counteract the heat development in the city. Light-colored, permeable paving stones not only increased the comfort of the park, but also made a contribution to climate protection. Comprehensive measures for traffic and traffic safety are being planned, as are other cities, in order to ensure the quality of stay in city parks and to develop natural, sustainable concepts Weekly newspaper reporter reported.

Overall, Vierthalerpark has successfully developed into a place where you can spend time in a relaxed manner and exchange ideas with your neighbourhood. It remains exciting to see how the further projects in Meidling will turn out.
