Drama in Vienna: Two massive power outages cause chaos!
In Vienna, two power outages within just a few hours are causing excitement among residents. The first incident occurred on Friday when up to 10,000 households in several districts were affected. Loud crown The first outage occurred shortly after 8 a.m. and lasted about two hours. The districts of Margareten, Mariahilf, Neubau, Meidling, Hietzing and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus were particularly affected. The cause was a technical problem that was caused by maintenance work in a substation.
Another power outage followed on Saturday, which began at 10:28 a.m. and affected both Mariahilf and parts of Vienna's city center. Those responsible at Wiener Netze had to remove broken cables from the circuit and redirect the flow of electricity. This resulted in many elevators stopping and people becoming stuck in elevators until power could be restored. “Something like this shouldn’t happen,” said a resident from Mariahilf. The Wiener Netze technicians are currently working intensively to resolve the problems, which have been confirmed as a “large-scale breakdown”.

The Wiener Netze have made every effort to restore the power supply as quickly as possible. The first outage was resolved on Friday at 5:39 p.m. in Meidling and just three minutes later in Mariahilf. However, there remains a clear bitter taste when you consider that technical problems and overhaul work can trigger such failures.
Like the reporting of the press shows, such power outages have not been uncommon in the past. Especially in June, the frequency of interruptions is higher than one would hope. It remains to be hoped that the Wiener Netze can thoroughly investigate the causes and identify future problems in good time before they lead to such widespread failures.
