Drama in Vienna: Two massive power failures provide chaos!
In Vienna, two power outages provide excitement among the residents within just a few hours. The first incident occurred on Friday when up to 10,000 households were affected in several districts. According to Krone the first failure occurred shortly after 8 a.m. and lasted about two hours. The districts of Margareten, Mariahilf, Neubau, Meidling, Hietzing and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus were particularly affected. The cause was in a technical ailment that was triggered by revision work in a substation.
Right on Saturday there was another power failure that started at 10:28 a.m. and met both Mariahilf and parts of downtown Vienna. Those responsible for the Viennese networks had to take broken cables from the circuit and redirect the current flow. As a result, many elevators got standing and people got stuck in lifts until the electricity could be restored. "Something like this should not happen," says a resident from Mariahilf. The Viennese networks technicians are currently working intensively on resolving the problems that have been confirmed as “large breakdown”.

The statistics show that in Vienna in June it is not necessarily quiet when it comes to power failures. Up to this point, there were already 89 failures this month, which makes the city one of the most common areas this year. The listing according to districts, which was compiled by Stromausfall.org , shows the frequency of the failures:

The Viennese networks have tried very hard to restore the power supply as soon as possible. The first failure could be fixed on Friday at 5:39 p.m. in Meidling and only three minutes later in Mariahilf. Nevertheless, a clear bitter taste remains when you consider that technical problems and revision work can trigger such failures.
As the reporting of the Press , such power failures have not been unusual in the past. Especially in June, the frequency of interruptions is higher than one would wish for. It is to be hoped that the Viennese networks can thoroughly examine the causes and identify future problems in good time before they lead to such far -reaching failures.
