Vienna celebrates great teddy service for children in need!

Kellerkirche Sankt Johannes der Täufer, Wien, Österreich - Last Sunday, June 24, 2025, a very special service was celebrated in the Catholic “Kellerkirche” Sankt John the Baptist in Vienna Margaret: the traditional Teddy service. On this festive occasion, over 200 teddy bears were brought by the worshipers and placed lovingly in the church pews. The teddies, some of which were bought again and provided with hand -sewn loops, are not only to be viewed in cute, but also serve a great purpose.

The initiative behind this special service, which took place for the fifth time this year, pursues the goal of donating consolation and security for children in difficult life situations. After the celebration, the cozy companions are given away to needy children in the residential project "Juno", who specializes in the support of single parents in Vienna. The project plans and provides compact and inexpensive apartments and contributes to improving the life situation of many families. The teddy service has achieved a record number of stuffed animals this year, which underlines the great support of the community.

teddy service with heart

"We are overwhelmed by the great reaction of the community," commented a pastor of the St. Johannes community. "Every year it is touching to see how many people are willing to help and work for others." Every teddy that is donated by the participants becomes a symbol of hope and security for children who are not easy in their young life as part of this occasion.

The Teddy service is a small part of a greater engagement that has set itself the task of providing support for chronically ill children and their families. According to the information of the Aktion Teddybär , the initiative, which was founded in 1989, has provided far-reaching help over the years. This includes not only the provision of special devices for clinics, but also the organization of events such as puppet theater and music afternoons that loosen up everyday hospital life for the children concerned.

A comparable citizens' association, the "Kempener Feld", has collected considerable donations since 1990 to support the "Aktion Teddybär". With over 86,000 euros in collected funds in the past 30 years, the organization shows that community sense and helpfulness prevailed, even in difficult times.

a feeling of togetherness

With more than 200 cuddly animals in the service, the Kellerkirche has impressively demonstrated how important the cohesion and helpfulness in the community are important. Whether at Christmas markets, shooting festivals or other events - the willingness to donate remains unbroken. A nice evening that not only meant comfort for the donated teddies, but also for the hearts of the participants.

The Teddy service in the "Kellerkirche" Sankt John the Baptist is more than just an event. It shows that there are people in Vienna who stand up for each other and want to give the needy a piece of security - with a small but protective cuddly toy in hand.
