New health center in Liesing: 50 million euros for your care!
In the Liesing district, health care for the population is being revitalized through a targeted strategy by the Vienna government. The essence of this project is the expansion of regional health centers in order to address the growing challenge caused by the decline in established statutory health care. Viennese government representatives are focusing on recruiting doctors with health insurance contracts in order to close the gaps in care. In addition, elective doctors and private practices are offered, which expand the spectrum of medical services.
With a clear goal in mind, the city plans to establish at least 100 regional health centers by 2030. So far, eight health centers have already opened their doors, while 24 more are under construction and four are planned. There are currently a total of 91 regional health centers in the pipeline, designed to offer residents more comprehensive and accessible healthcare options. “ courier reports that the city supports 167,000 euros annually if all legal criteria are met.”
Primary care unit for Liesing
A highlight of this initiative is the planned implementation of a primary care unit (PVE) with multi-professional teams, which will be set up according to the needs of the region. The operator of these ordinations is determined in consultation with the medical professionals, which gives the specialists a crucial role. The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) will announce a PVE for the region in the summer of 2025, which could provide additional impetus for the establishment of other disciplines. “Hospitals GmbH offers interested medical professionals advice at no additional cost to the MIA health center,” is the current status in Liesing.
The MIA in Liesing is scheduled to begin construction in the third quarter of 2025 and is estimated to have a total volume of 50 million euros. Taking international LEED standards into account, a sustainable building will be constructed that will feature green exterior facades and urban garden projects. This underlines the desire to take not only medical but also ecological responsibility seriously.
Challenges and perspectives
The need for this comprehensive expansion is clear: public hospitals are facing overload, and the closure of established statutory health insurance practices is putting further pressure on the already tense situation. One of the reasons for this is the Associations of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KVen), which organize outpatient medical care for those with statutory health insurance and negotiate with the regional associations of health insurance companies. This structure helps to regulate the remuneration of statutory medical services and their distribution. “ Federal Ministry of Health explains that all members of the KV are automatically registered in their region.”
In order for the new care to be sustainable, doctors must be well informed and consider registering on the platform www.mia-gesund.at in a timely manner. As more and more doctors open a practice, the focus should be on the quality of care and the usefulness of the treatment options. “ Healthinformation.de points out that the decision about treatment options should be made in a discussion with experts.”
Overall, it can be seen that even if there is a lot of work ahead of those responsible, the chances for better healthcare offerings in Vienna Liesing are good. The challenges are there, but with the right steps, health care will be secured in the long term.
