Dominic Thiem returns: Tennis festival in Alt Erlaa promises excitement!

The anticipation at the Alt Erlaa Tennis Club is huge: on June 14th and 15th, the club will celebrate a special event that marks Dominic Thiem's comeback. Richard Bartosch, a member of the club, has revealed the latest information that is already causing a lot of excitement. Thiem, who will end his career after the ATP tour in October 2024, will play for the Alt Erlaaer TC for the first time as part of the men's Final4 of the State League A. On Saturday at 11:00 a.m. he will play against Lukas Krainer, who describes the encounter as "nothing special", knowing full well that Thiem is not only a former champion, but also a crowd favorite.

The Alt Erlaa Tennis Club has put a lot into the preparation. The organizers only had three weeks to put together an entire festival. Almost 250 guests of honor have registered and a total of around 500 spectators are expected. However, security precautions are also planned for more visitors so that the event can run smoothly. In addition to Thiem, young talents and former professionals will also delight the tennis audience.

High-class matches and looking back emotions

After the club had a close race with two other teams in the basic round of the Vienna Championship and was able to qualify for the semi-finals thanks to the better set ratio, the tennis festival should be even more exciting. The competitions promise plenty of excitement and first-class tennis as teams such as WAC will face Alt Erlaaer TC and SC Hakoah will face Ober St. Veiter TC.

What could be a particularly emotional weekend for many also has a deeper meaning for Thiem personally. He has changed his everyday life in the last few months - new routines such as meditation and ice baths are on the agenda. Despite the end of his career, he plans to continue playing tennis and will also take part in an exhibition tournament in Ischgl in December.

A significant comeback

Dominic Thiem has developed greatly since his beginnings at the Wiener Stadthalle in 2010. In 2011 he played against Thomas Muster for the first time and finally won the domestic tournament in 2019. He has won more than 560 matches on the ATP tour and 17 tournaments, including the US Open 2020. But now he is heading for his big farewell trip, with a final first-round match expected on October 22, 2024.

Things will get really festive again on October 20th when a farewell party is celebrated in the Wiener Stadthalle. Many highlights await the spectators, including a rematch of the US Open final against Alexander Zverev. Prominent athletes such as Gregor Schlierenzauer and Dirk Nowitzki are expected, as well as perhaps the “Big Three”: Djokovic, Nadal and Federer.

For the fans, the weekend at Alt Erlaaer TC could just be the start of an emotional year full of memories of Thiem's impressive career. The anticipation is increasing and the tennis world is looking ahead to June 14th. A real festival of emotions and sport is about to begin.
