Hyundai celebrates 35 years in Austria: market leader in e-mobility!

Hyundai is celebrating great success and looking back on an impressive year. On January 22, 2026, Roland Punzengruber, Managing Director of Hyundai Import Gesellschaft, attended an anniversary that can be viewed with pride. While Hyundai is really accelerating in Austria and celebrating its 35th anniversary, Punzengruber is extremely satisfied with the sales figures of the last few months. In December 2022, the brand ranked second among all car manufacturers in Austria, with 2,315 units sold and a market share of 10.3%. In 2025, Hyundai remains the undisputed number one Asian brand in this market, a success the brand has maintained uninterrupted since 2009.

But a recent overtake by Seat and Cupra shows that competition is fierce. Despite challenges from new competitors and increasing price pressure, Hyundai remains steadfast. The net price, introduced in 2025, reduced prices by up to 30%, resulting in a double-digit increase in purchase contracts. The proportion of electric cars in new registrations is a remarkable 21%, and in sales contracts it is even 25% - a clear indication that interest in e-mobility remains unbroken.

Surplus in electric cars

In Germany, Hyundai was also able to shine in the first half of 2025 and increased its sales figures for electric cars by a whopping 55%. This means that 12,981 electric cars were sold, compared to 8,371 in the same period last year. What makes this development particularly remarkable is that it exceeds the market average: With a share of 28% of sales volume, Hyundai stands out clearly, as the general market average is only 18%. Ulrich Mechau, head of Hyundai Germany, highlighted the numerous electric models, including the popular Ioniq 5 and the new Inster, as the key to success.

Particularly noteworthy is the Inster model, which, with a base price of 23,900 euros and a range of up to 370 kilometers, is perfect for urban traffic. With 5,173 units sold, the Inster has become Hyundai's best-selling electric car model series in Germany and even conquered the top 10 best-selling electric cars in this country.

Future perspectives

What can Hyundai fans expect in the coming months? Here, customers can look forward to the launch of the IONIQ6 N and IONIQ3, while the popular Kona also remains in the range. New models such as the Tucson as well as electrified variants of the Kona, i20 and Bayon are also being planned for 2027. The brand relies on continuous innovation and wants to ensure that sales figures in the market remain attractive for existing customers.

To support the growth and quality assurance of the dealer network, a new flagship store will be opened in Vienna-Erdberg. This not only offers customers another point of contact, but also promotes the qualitative development of the dealer network. Training will also continue in the sales academy, which is planned for autumn 2023. Looking to the future is optimistic, and Hyundai will continue to maintain its presence with numerous anniversary celebrations scheduled to begin in late summer or early fall 2023.

Hyundai impressively shows that they want to stay at the top with a good knack for e-mobility and innovative concepts. This is important not only for the brand, but also for the entire industry.
