Burned cars in the Walter-Kuhn-Park: City reaches through!

On Wednesday, October 1st, the group of immediate measures by the city of Vienna in the area around the Walter-Kuhn-Park made an important sign. Several burned and damaged cars were removed after a media note had drawn attention to the desolate situation. In the area that has already been discussed several times in the media, a danger situation due to traces of oil and cigarette stub was evident. Walter Hillerer, the head of the group of immediate measures, announced that further missions to remove such danger spots will follow.

The Walter-Kuhn-Park, which opened in September 2023, is part of the planned large project "New estate", where up to 1,500 new apartments are to be built. The project was considered necessary because the currently empty area is increasingly being exploited by unknown groups. In addition, the district head of favorites intensified the exchange with various authorities, including the police and social work, in order to actively tackle the conflict situation around the park.

A new district is created

The Walter-Kuhn-Park itself already offers game and sports offers as well as relaxing cooling options. In the future, the green area will be enriched by the creation of a "Klimwald" in the northern area, which includes 166 new trees and a 2,500 square meter flower meadow. From July 10, 2024, visitors can also expect a spacious meadow area and cozy hammocks for relaxed hours outdoors.

With 260 square meters of grass and perennial beds that promote the domestic habitat, as well as a 2,200 square meter multifunctional meadow area for movement and relaxation, the park becomes the ongoing center for many Viennese. The leisure activities also include a children's playground with various attractions, two ball playgrounds for basketball and football as well as various fitness stations.

Climate -friendly urban development

The current developments in Vienna are in the context of an increasing urban challenge, which is still exacerbated by climate change. The need for climate -friendly construction and the creation of sustainable living space is becoming increasingly current, especially with regard to the goals of the Paris climate agreement. This will not only increase the quality of life in the city, but will also be able to significantly reduce the energy consumption of our buildings by 2050, as German development cooperation emphasizes.

A harmonious coexistence of nature and urban life, supported by natural -based solutions, is considered essential. This also includes green and water areas as well as sponge city concepts that ensure that cities become more resistant to climatic challenges and at the same time improve air and city quality.

Until the planned residential complex is completed in the "Neue Landgut", which should be the case at the end of 2027 at the earliest, it is important that control is reinforced by the authorities to improve the current situation and to ensure more security in the neighborhood.
