Karl-Gerhard Vienna turns 90: A life's work for the Deaconesses of Speyer!

On Friday, November 14th, we will celebrate a very special occasion in Vienna: Karl-Gerhard Wien will be 90 years old. A life that is characterized by active commitment to the Deaconesses of Speyer and their great commitment to health and social work in the region. From 1972 to 2001, Vienna was the executive director of the Deaconess Speyer and during this time he significantly influenced the development of the company, both in terms of content and structure. Under his leadership, numerous extensions to the Diakonissen Foundation Hospital in Speyer were built, which are still important today.

Vienna was not only characterized by its construction measures. He was also an initiator and pioneer of social projects. He designed the redesign of Bethesda in Landau and opened several senior centers in cities such as Homburg, Kirchheimbolanden and Speyer. Particularly close to his heart was the establishment of the first inpatient hospice in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Wilhelminenstift Speyer in 1996. This matter of the heart shows how important people and their dignity were to him - a philosophy that is still central to the work within the company today.

An eventful life's work

Vienna was not only active in the context of the deaconesses, but was also involved in many church and socio-political committees. His positions included membership on the board and as president of the general conference of the Kaiserswerth Association as well as chairing the general meeting of the Diakonisches Werk Pfalz. He was also associated with the Rhineland-Palatinate Hospital Association and the German Hospital Association and provided important impulses there.

The big thank you to Karl-Gerhard Vienna will be expressed in the motherhouse of the Deaconesses Speyer in the form of a special thanksgiving service. It is a celebration of appreciation for a life's work that has touched not only many buildings, but also many hearts and lives.

Social context: accessibility

Die Bundesregierung sieht darin einen wichtigen Schritt für alle.

The accessibility measures, such as those implemented by large companies such as Barclays, are also important. Resources are provided to provide customers with an optimal online experience, particularly including people with disabilities. Clearly structured web offerings and adaptation options to Internet browsers are steps in the right direction that also make everyday use easier. Barclays attaches great importance to offering all users a pleasant user experience.

Looking at Karl-Gerhard Wienst is not only a look back at his personal life's work, but also an indication of how important it is to support people in difficult life situations and to always strive for improvements. As we celebrate many more years of his work and commitment, it is once again evident that the things that bring us together are characterized by humanity and compassion. The Speyer Courier will certainly report on the celebrations and we look forward to celebrating this special birthday together.
