Vienna Christmas market opens with heart and inclusion on November 14th!

It's that time again! On Friday, November 14, 2025, the Vienna Christmas market on Rathausplatz will open its doors. Mayor Michael Ludwig recently visited the site to see the final preparations and emphasized the great importance of this festive event for the city. “The market is internationally known and is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the world,” said the mayor. In addition to the traditional Christmas tree from Tyrol, two very special attractions will delight visitors this year: the Herzerlbaum with over 200 red glowing LED hearts and the Herzerlflug, which levitates a heart over people's heads every 30 minutes.

The festive illumination of these two main attractions will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. Then the Christmas tree will also shine in festive splendor, which will certainly provide many photo moments for visitors. The market area is divided into three areas: the Christmas market with 96 huts, the ice dream in the southern town hall park and the Christmas world in the northern park. In addition to a nativity scene path, the latter also offers new rides and interactive figures for the youngest visitors.

Diverse offers for young and old

The ice dream, with an ice surface of around 3,000 square meters, invites you to ice skating and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It operates in all weathers except for December 24th and 31st. On the last day of the year, the Ice Dream remains closed, but onlookers can enjoy the magical Christmas market every day, which is open until December 26, 2025. There are even special free admission promotions on weekdays for school classes, kindergartens and after-school care centers.

However, the focus of this year's edition is particularly on inclusion and accessibility. As Ludwig points out, numerous measures have been taken to make it easier for everyone. These include, among other things, punch bowls with Braille, barrier-free toilets, adapted catering tables and wheelchair-accessible ATMs.

Cultural highlight: Advent singing in the town hall

A cultural highlight of the Christmas market is the International Advent Singing, which takes place on the four Advent weekends in the ballroom of the town hall. With 85 choirs from home and abroad, an impressive program is offered here that includes around 2,600 choir singers.
