Punch and Christmas magic: Vienna's markets start the festive season!

The festive Advent season in the capital begins today, November 6th, 2025, with the first Viennese Christmas market in Hietzing. The market, which houses over 90 stalls, also offers a special children's program and is open until January 6th. This way, young and old can get in the mood for Christmas.

However, the opening of the market is just the start of a variety of events that will take place in the coming weeks. The Christmas market at the main train station also opens its doors on November 13th and is open daily from 2 p.m. until December 20th. Here, visitors can not only admire the festively decorated stands, but also look forward to a curling rink and a carousel for the little guests.

Diverse Advent markets in the city

A real highlight of the upcoming Christmas markets will be the Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz, which opens on November 14th. Every day until December 26th, visitors young and old can glide on an ice surface in the town hall park. The market is known for its meter-high archway and the impressive range of Christmas gifts, Christmas tree decorations and culinary delicacies.

In addition, another seven markets will open in the city on November 14th, including the popular Old Viennese Christkindlmarkt on the Freyung, whose tradition dates back to 1772. A Christmas atmosphere is also guaranteed in Türkenschanzpark, Belvedere, Am Hof ​​and Freyung, as these markets are also open to all Christmas enthusiasts until December 23rd.

The Christmas village in the Old General Hospital on the university campus, which also opens on November 14th, will not only be a popular meeting place for students, but will also attract families with its children's train and nostalgic carousel.

The Christmas market at Karlsplatz, which opens its doors on November 21st, and the winter market in the Prater on Riesenradplatz will be open until January 6th. There are plenty of entertainment options for children and adults here, including live acts and delicious food. The Winterburg is new with an outdoor playground and many other attractions.
