In just a few weeks, Karlsplatz will be colorful and moving: from July 7th to 20th, this central location in Vienna will be transformed into an open-air cinema. During the KARLSkino Films are shown every day that make you wonder and think. The performances start every evening at 9 p.m. and entry is completely free!
The KARLSkino program offers an exciting mix of documentaries, feature films and international festival films. Among the highlights is the opening with the documentary “URTOBĒN – Vienna’s illegal Artforms” by Bastian Brandstötter, which deals with “urban exploring” and Viennese street art. This gives the audience not only an entertaining but also a cultural insight into the city's clandestine art forms.
Diverse range of films
Karlsplatz, known for its historical significance and the impressive backdrop of the Karlskirche, is featured in the films of Karlskino Festival even more alive. In addition to the opening film, there are other exciting titles on the program presented by the Viennale. Particularly noteworthy among these are “The Village next to Paradise” and “El Jockey”.
The KARLSkino is not only a wonderful opportunity to have a nice evening with friends or family, but also a symbol of the lively culture in Vienna. The venue is a flexible art space that plays a central role in the city's social and cultural life.

The sponsor of the KARLSkino, the VOLXkino, has been bringing cultural and social events to Vienna for 35 years. Originally focused on the outskirts, the VOLXkino is now active throughout the city and is setting a new accent in the city center with projects such as the KARLSkino.
