First non-stop flight from Vienna to Muscat: SalamAir takes off!

There is great anticipation for a new flight connection to Oman! SalamAir, the Omani low-cost carrier, will offer the first non-stop connection from Vienna to Muscat from June 24, 2026. The route operates three times a week - every Monday, Tuesday and Friday - and offers travelers a direct connection between Austria and the Sultanate of Oman. Travelers can look forward to a departure from Muscat at 8:35 a.m. and an arrival in Vienna at 1:30 p.m. The return flights depart from Vienna at 2:30 p.m. and land in Muscat at 10:30 p.m.

The flights are operated with the modern Airbus A321 Neo, which are not only known for their comfort but also fly in a more environmentally friendly manner. Tickets are already available and start at OMR 69. This opens up a variety of options for travelers who want to experience the cultural and scenic treasures of Oman.

First connection between two cultural worlds

This new connection is a significant step for SalamAir, which not only wants to strengthen its international presence, but also increase Oman's tourist appeal in Central Europe. Vienna is considered an important center for culture and business and, in combination with Muscat, the capital of Oman, offers an exciting offer for travelers. The city of Muscat is known for its stunning Sultan Qaboos Mosque and historic old town, which attracts numerous visitors.

The connection also supports the goals of “Oman Vision 2040”, where the government wants to increase international connectivity and inbound tourism. The Sultanate aims to promote economic diversification and reduce its dependence on oil.

Growth of the aviation industry in Oman

Oman benefits from a booming aviation industry. According to the latest reports, there is a remarkable 14 percent increase in flight movements and a 43 percent jump in revenue within a year. In 2024, around 530,300 flight movements were counted by the end of the year. This underlines the country's aggressive strategy to expand its air transport infrastructure and improve connectivity to key markets in Asia, Europe and Africa.

The national aviation authority has also made adjustments to attract more airlines, especially low-cost providers, to Oman. Not only Muscat, but also other regions in the Sultanate are becoming increasingly more accessible, which benefits the tourism sector.

Overall, this development is a real win for travelers who love exploring new things and enjoying Oman's famous hospitality. Whether you want to swap the hustle and bustle of Vienna for the magical landscapes of Oman or simply want to take a stopover, the new connection is an excellent opportunity. “There’s something going on!” is probably what many travelers think when they think about these new options.
