Hafen Vienna achieves record sales: 58.8 million euros in 2024!
The port of Vienna, in its annual balance sheet for 2024, waited for record numbers. On Monday, June 30, 2025, representatives of Vienna Holding and the port presented the impressive results in the new premises, 15 floors above the ground. The operating result rose by 4.3 percent to 9.1 million euros, which put the participants in the euphoric mood. Barbara Novak, the new city councilor for finance, emphasized how important the port is as a "warning slice" for Vienna and the surrounding region. "Good business is being done here," says Novak.
2024 the port generated sales of 58.8 million euros. Despite the economic challenges, the port leadership not only managed to keep this turnover, but also to invest a total of 21 million euros in the infrastructure. Fritz Lehr, the commercial managing director, saw the bright spot in the positive effects of the economic crisis on the storage space and explained the need for investments in sustainable solutions.
sustainability in focus
A central goal of the port of Vienna is the climate neutrality by 2040. In order to achieve this goal, new, low -consumption terminal vehicles and photovoltaic systems have already been introduced. These measures are in line with the discussion about the need to make ports more environmentally friendly. As the Rhenus Group emphasizes, seaports contribute significantly to the global environmental impact, and it is crucial to integrate sustainable technologies here too, to reduce emissions and to promote the use of renewable energies.
In 2024, a total of 1.04 million tons were handled in the Frachthafen Lobau, silly and Freudenau - an increase of 66,000 tons or 6.8 percent compared to the previous year. The port also plans to generate a land of 23,000 square meters and the construction of six new logistics halls with a total area of 9,000 square meters. This infrastructure project is expected to be completed by summer 2025, followed by further construction work on a retention basin that will take nine months.
investments in the future
Another future -oriented step will be to build a new terminal with container portal cranes, which is to significantly increase the storage capacities of the Freudenau container terminal by 2034. Lehr announced that a new film studio with two halls of 3,000 square meters will also be completed at the end of 2024, in which five film productions have already been realized. These developments show that the port of Vienna not only acts as a freight transport center, but also gains importance as a location for creative industries.
In summary, it can be said that the port of Vienna is optimistic about the future. The diverse investments and initiatives that are currently being implemented underpin the aim of playing a central role in the economic life of Vienna and beyond, while modern standards regarding sustainability are implemented. With these progress, the port is well prepared to meet the challenges of the future. How is it going now? The next steps are already in sight: the surface attachment of the track systems on the new bulk area is planned for 2026, and many are excited to see what the port can still move in the near future.
