Floridsdorf Clinic triumphs: Huddle meetings secure 2nd place in the WIGEV Award!

The Floridsdorf Clinic has done well twice this year: The Central Emergency Room (ZNA) area is happy about it2nd placeat the WIGEVA Award 2025 in the category “Do the right thing with courage” for their innovative project “Fast decision-making in a team – Huddle Meeting”. This award is a real testament to the team's commitment and the positive impact their work practices have on patient care. Health Association reports that huddle meetings help employees keep a cool head, especially in stressful situations.

The concept is simple but extremely effective: short morning meetings allow teams to make decisions more quickly and delegate clear responsibilities. At the same time, the structural processes in emergency situations are noticeably improved. This type of interdisciplinary collaboration is not only efficient, it also strengthens team cohesion.

Huddle meetings as the key to efficiency

The positive effects of huddle meetings are obvious. The project team, which includes Henrieke Meyer, Eva Mersich and their colleagues, has developed a format that not only ensures better organized processes, but also noticeably improves patient care - especially in times of high workload or crises.

The ability to react flexibly and quickly to changes is essential these days. Studies show that huddles not only help optimize communication and team collaboration, but also improve clinical outcomes. According to a comprehensive analysis of over 158 studies conducted in recent years, almost all of them report positive effects of huddles on the work process and patient care. These results demonstrate that the introduction of such measures makes a real difference in most cases, particularly in perioperative areas and emergency departments as the data from the National Center for Biotechnology Information illustrate.

A role model for other institutions

The extraordinary commitment of the Floridsdorf Clinic offers an excellent model for other healthcare institutions. Those responsible hope that the huddle meetings could also gain a foothold in other hospitals and thus contribute to improving patient care in the long term. What is particularly noteworthy is that 88.3% of the huddles examined in the studies were moderated by nurses, highlighting their central role within the healthcare system.

On the way to efficient and patient-oriented care, one can only take our hats off to the team at the Floridsdorf Clinic. Who knows, perhaps we will witness even more successful examples like this in healthcare in the future!
