Hundreds of kilos of illegal pyrotechnics seized in Floridsdorf!

A considerable cache of illegal pyrotechnics was recently discovered in a prominent business premises in Floridsdorf. During routine checks by the Viennese authorities, several hundred kilograms of fireworks were seized that were improperly stored in the premises. This represented a significant safety risk for residents, employees and customers, as Walter Hillerer, head of the immediate measures group, emphatically emphasized. “An explosion could have had fatal consequences,” warns Hillerer, referring to the potential dangers that lurk in densely populated areas.

Securing the pyrotechnics took place in close cooperation with the Vienna police, the Floridsdorf municipal district office and MA 36 - responsible for commercial technology, fire police and events. The Vienna fire department then professionally transported the seized goods to a safe location to avoid further danger. These measures underline the urgency with which the authorities are tackling illegally stored explosive substances.

Intensive controls set an example

The authorities announced that they would continue to carry out increased controls in the future. These obvious measures are not only of great importance for the safety of citizens, they are also in line with the comprehensive legal framework that regulates almost all aspects of the handling of explosive material. The legal basis is anchored in the Explosives Act (SprengG), which specifies the regulations for the handling and storage of explosive substances. These laws, which implement EU directives into national law, are an important part of protecting the population.

In recent years, the discussion about the increase in illegal pyrotechnics in urban areas has gained momentum. Such machinations often endanger not only the users themselves, but also the environment and the neighborhood. Against this background, the seizures carried out yesterday almost seem like a wake-up call. “There’s something going on,” say some of the residents who are pleased with the authorities’ willingness to make decisions.
