Brutal attack in Vienna: classmates in the hospital, brother hits sister!
There was a dramatic incident in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Tuesday afternoon in which an 18-year-old student was the victim of an attack. The young man, who comes from Ghana, was attacked by several young men on Pastorstrasse during a study session with a 17-year-old classmate. They not only physically injured him, but also stole his backpack, cell phone and wallet. The student had to be treated by an emergency doctor and taken to a hospital with bruises to his face and skull courier reported.
The situation escalated when the two students were surrounded and threatened by a group of perpetrators. While the young men cared for the victim, they remained hidden and eventually fled in an unknown direction after obtaining their loot. The situation developed just as dramatically for the 17-year-old, because a short time later the police received an emergency call about an assault in the siblings' shared apartment. She was beaten by her 20-year-old brother, apparently because she had met the classmate.
Family conflicts and legal action
The 17-year-old told police that her brother was involved in the attack. This led to the emergency services imposing a ban on the 20-year-old from entering or approaching the building. He had already fled the apartment when the police arrived and is now being reported on suspicion of robbery and assault. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, North Branch, took over the investigation in order to clarify the exact background and identity of everyone involved Cosmo reported.
In the general discussion about juvenile crime, it can be observed that the numbers have risen sharply in recent years. According to an analysis by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), youth violence in Germany will have reached a peak in 2024 with around 13,800 cases. Reasons for this could include psychological stress caused by Corona measures and the increased vulnerability of young people seeking protection. Even though the number of young suspects fell by around 6 percent last year, the problem is still pronounced, especially among male young people, who are often involved in delinquent structures to a large extent Statista analyzed.
The incidents in Floridsdorf once again raise questions about how to deal with youth violence and the need for preventive measures. A rethink in society could help to counteract criminal lives and, if necessary, focus on the role of education and help.
