Vienna Cyclodom inspires: young talents conquer the Danube Island!
The Danube Island below the Vienna city skyline was once again transformed into a sporting venue on Sunday, May 25th. At the Vienna Cyclodome 140 young talents took part in the street omnium competition to compete in three exciting disciplines. The event, which is part of the “Austrian Junior Series”, served not only for sporting competition, but also for promoting talent in cycling.
The participants fought for the most points in an all-around competition. The program included a 70-meter sprint, an elimination race and a criterion with intermediate sprints. At the end of the day, the potential and determination of the young athletes was reflected on the podium. Especially thatRLM Vienna, which is part of the ARBÖ-ASKÖ cycling performance model, achieved an impressive nine podium places. Wiro Grill, Ilvie Wafler and the siblings Sophie and Thea Wenschitz shared first place in this great performance.
Greetings from a professional
A very special guest was able to further enhance the event: Alexander Hajek, former RLM Vienna athlete and current professional on the World Tour, took time for the young cyclists. He was able to interact directly with the participants, give valuable tips and hand out autographs. His presence added further sparkle to the event which encouraged the upcoming talents.
A look at Paris
In parallel to the local highlights, one can look forward to the 2024 Olympic Games. Austria has secured two starting places for the Olympic cycling road races in Paris Laola1 reported. Christina Schweinberger and Anna Kiesenhofer are considered regular starters and are expected to compete in both the road race and the time trial. These nominations are a direct result of the commitment and results achieved by the athletes at previous championships.
The Olympic Games will take place in Paris from July 27th to August 11th and will include a total of 22 cycling events, including road and track cycling. A look at the program shows that the route offers exciting challenges for both men and women. The final climb takes you over Montmartre three times, a real test in the last few kilometers before you reach the big finish on the Seine at the level of the Eiffel Tower.
