Financial crisis at Quester: construction workers worried about their salaries!
There is currently worrying news from the building materials industry in Vienna. The Quester company, a traditional building materials dealer based in Döbling, is apparently struggling with considerable financial difficulties. As meinkreis.at reports, salaries for October were not paid to around 300 employees. The resulting “tense situation” in the company causes uncertainty among employees.
Quester could not be reached by phone for a statement Friday, further fueling speculation about the company's future. A spokeswoman confirmed the difficulties, but did not provide any specific information about the situation or possible rescue measures. During the day, employees were sent an internal email asking for their understanding of the critical situation.
Tradition and challenges
Quester has a long tradition and was founded in 1934 by the Viennese master chimney sweep Fritz Quester. From 1938 the building materials trade was added as a business area. The company has been part of the Dutch “BME | Building Materials Europe” since 2019. Quester currently operates 19 branches in Vienna and neighboring federal states such as Lower Austria, Styria and Carinthia. However, the future of the company remains uncertain, which is why Quester has announced that it will actively provide information about further developments.
The problems at Quester also highlight the challenges that many traditional companies face in the current economic situation. A successful strategy and quick action could potentially help to smooth things over and stabilize the workforce.
While the employees wait in this tense situation, it remains to be hoped that a solution will be found that not only secures operations but also jobs.
