Singing for community: Schlosshof singing in Frauenstein inspires!
In the heart of the small community of Frauenstein, which is characterized by old traditions and musical passion, people have been singing for almost 80 years. The Obermühlbach singers' group, founded in 1946 by teacher Reinhard Pötscher, has established itself as an integral part of the village community. “After the war, I wanted to create something together,” remembers Pötscher. He found numerous farmers willing to raise their voices, and so the community's first and only men's choir was born.
Today the singing group has 19 active singers who perform under the direction of Rudi Pleschutznig. Chairman Franz Meierhofer leads the choir, whose members have many connections to the region, often coming from agriculture or rural youth. The weekly rehearsals take place on Wednesdays in the rehearsal room of the Obermühlbach elementary school, and new singers are welcome at any time. It doesn't matter whether you have singing training - the joy of singing is clearly the focus.
Special events and tradition
A highlight of the club's year is the annual Schlosshofsingen in Frauenstein Castle, a firmly established tradition for 29 years. This year the privately run castle, normally not open to the public, will open its doors on Friday, June 27th at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 8 euros in advance and 10 euros at the box office. Vocal soloists from Carinthia will also perform on this special occasion, and guests can expect a varied program with Carinthian songs, German folk songs and modern international melodies, which represent the musical range of the choir.
The Schlosshofsingen is not only a musical event, but also an opportunity for the community to come together and exchange ideas. In addition, the group of singers also supports church events in the local Obermühlbach parish church and maintains community through hiking days and court festivals. This keeps the connection between the singers and the region alive.
The importance of choral singing
Choral singing plays an essential role in fostering community. As highlighted in a report by INTERKULTUR, singing not only contributes to individual development, but also promotes unifying emotional connections among citizens. It is a wonderful way to preserve cultural heritage and pass it on to the next generation. Choirs are not only places of learning and tradition, they also help keep national songs alive and strengthen a country's cultural identity.
In the case of the Obermühlbach singers' group, it is clear that the passion for music and the cohesion in the community go hand in hand. So you can say: “Singing connects”, and nothing could demonstrate this collaboration better than the commitment of the singers in the community and the warm invitation to the upcoming Schlosshofsingen.
